Group Study Rooms

Detailed policy (PDF)

  • Exclusive use of Utica College students for academic purposes. 
  • Valid Utica College Student ID required.
  • 1, 2, or 3 hour blocks, with a maximum of 3 hours per day for any one group.
  • During times of high demand, renewals are not allowed. 
  • 10 minute grace period for reservations. If at least two members of the group are not present, another group may use the room.
  • Do not leave personal items or library materials unattended in the rooms.

 

The study rooms are in high demand, and are for academic use by students only.

  • Not available to social groups, student organizations or classes.
  • Faculty should contact their School office for space needs for classes, review sessions, group facilitation, meetings, etc.

 

Reservations:

  • Seven days in advance by groups of 2 or more students. 
  • Call 792-3041 or stop by the Circulation Desk.


 

Library staff  reserve the right to refuse or limit the use of the group study rooms.

Reserves

Electronic Reserves: access through your Engage or Canvas course shell.

Print and Media Reserves

  • Loan period is 3 hours with a UC ID
  • In- library use
  • Non-renewable
  • $2.00 per hour fine for overdue reserve items

Student Circulation Policy

Your UC ID is your library card - always have it with you! It is required for most library transactions.

 

Books (second floor):  60 day loan period with a UC ID card 

Popular Reading (first floor): 28 day loan period with a UC ID card 

  • Renewals: May be renewed unless the item is needed by another patron or is on course reserve.

 

To check due dates and  renew your books:  Go to "My Account" on the library home page.  Sign in using your UC email and password.   

 

  • Materials are subject to recall if requested by another patron or needed for course reserve.
  • Library staff reserve the right to limit the number of books that a student may check out.

 

The following materials may only be used in the Library:

  • Journals: current issues or bound
  • Newspapers
  • Reference materials
  • Course Reserve items
  • Microform
  • Media
  • Other items identified as In-Library Use or Non-Circulating

Borrowing exceptions for in-library use materials may be made if the item is needed for a class presentation:

  • A UC Librarian's permission is required
  • For reserve materials, the professor's permission is required.

Laptops

Laptops

  • Laptops are loaned to current UC students.
  • A current, valid UC ID card is required.
  • Other forms of identification, such as a Drivers License, are not accepted
  • Loan period is 3 hours, renewable dependent upon demand.
  • Students are required to sign a contract with the following terms:
    • A valid Utica College ID card will be surrendered for the duration of the loan period
    • Laptops are in-library use only and may not be removed from the Library
    • Borrowing period: Three (3) hours
      • Laptops may be renewed dependent upon demand
  • Students accept full responsibility for the use of the laptop, and will reimburse Utica College for any cost incurred while checked out.
  • The replacement cost for a laptop is $1,000.00, plus a processing fee. Power cord replacement cost is $75.00

Overdue and Billing Policies

Students receive the following email notifications for UC library books that they have borrowed:

  1.  2 days before the due date a courtesy reminder to return or renew the books.
  2. 1st overdue notice 1 week after due date
  3. 2nd overdue notice 3 weeks after date due.
  4. 31 days after date due, the item is now assumed to be lost, and the student is sent a bill for the item with a $4.00 processing fee per item. The charges are posted to their Student Financial Services account.

If materials are returned in good condition, all charges and fees are waived.  Refunds, however, will not be granted.
