SWK 502 Recovery Theory, Values and Skills

Referencing Videos in APA 7

Example of a web video reference in APA 7:

Ragins, M. (2012, April 9). What does the recovery model look like today? YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2SDbSuX3kQ

To reference a video from the web in APA 7 style, you should list these five elements in the following order, separated by periods (.)

Author - This is sometimes the name of the person speaking in the video, but it may also be an organization's name or a person's screenname. Capitalize the first word of each part of this name. For a named person, use (Lastname, Initial. Initial.). End with a period.

Date - This is the year the video was made.  It should appear in parentheses in your reference.  It may also include a month and date. Use n.d. if there is no date given.   End with a period. Examples: (1998).     (2022, August 8).     (n.d.).

Title - This is the title or name of the video. It should appear in sentence case: that is, apart from proper names, only the first letter of the first word of the title and the subtitle are capitalized. The title should appear in italics. End with a period.

Source - This is the name of the website or organization posting the video online. Example: YouTube, Vimeo, SAMHSA, etc.

URL - This is the web address of the video. You should not include a period after the URL. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4pVAsTIBVU
