Useful Tips

Tip 1: Your first seach should be a very general keyword search.

Tip 2: Never use a, an, or the when searching for a title.

Tip 3: Always use the long view to review subject headings.

Tip 4: If a record says "networked resource" it is usually available online.

Tip 5: Distance students may get a physical "print" book from the UC collection mailed to them. Use the UC Interlibrary loan service for this request but allow plenty of time for processing.

 

 

The Library Catalog

The basic UC library catalog uses a discovery search approach. returning both books and articles (in the everything search, for example) from a single foray. This is powerful and comvenient, but "messy"  On the left of results, it is easy to LIMIT results to ebooks. 

Be sure to use the limit facets on the left hand side of results to wotk with records. Graduate level searchers may find the more sophisticated FirstSearch useful.
