The Periodic Table of Black History showcases notable Black and African American figures and their impactful contributions to various fields. The display was adapted for our Jeremy C. Thurston '00 Center for Career Readiness space to represent our students in different industries. Sam Vincent, Coordinator for Student Transitions, added a QR code to each entry to direct viewers to more information. The display is a conversation starter - a starting point regarding important contributions by Black and African Americans, which we hope may be year-round discussions.
Origin of the Project:
In 2019, Danielle Daniels and Amanda Ballard, staff members at the Lakeland Public Library in Florida, created a Periodic Table of Black History in honor of Black History Month. The project was inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements and a desire to encourage conversation about the contributions of Black and African Americans in our nation.
