Generative AI in MLA style

  • MLA doesn't recommend using an AI tool as an author and has a different structure for how to cite a Generative AI tool.

Generative AI in APA style

  • APA recommends citing the Generative AI tool as the author and in-text citations. Writers should follow the APA Style Guide for structure.

Generative AI in Chicago style

  • Chicago Style cites Generative AI as an author.
  • "You must credit ChatGPT when you reproduce its words within your own work, but unless you include a publicly available URL, that information should be put in the text or in a note—not in a bibliography or reference list.
