Interlibrary Loan

If you are a distance learner...

Distance students have direct access to thousands of full text electronic books and journal articles by searching the WorldCat Discovery catalog and subscription databases at the UU library web site: http://www.utica.edu/academic/library/ .

For those items not available online, distance students can use  ILLiad to request books and articles needed for their academic work.

If Utica University Library owns the book or journal:

Distance learners can borrow items owned by the Utica University library (both books and articles) by submitting them as an Interlibrary Loan request through ILLiad. Books will be delivered to the address that you have provided when you register. (This service is available only to those students enrolled in courses coded by UU as distance education.)  Please keep the packaging and authorized return shipping label so you can return the books at no direct cost to you. Journal articles will be delivered electronically through ILLiad or emailed to your Utica University email address.

If Utica University does not own the journal:

Distance learners can order articles from other libraries by submitting an ILL request through ILLiad for them. The article will be delivered to you through ILLiad or by email.

If Utica University does not own the book:

UU library is currently testing a pilot project, Distance Student ILL Delivery Service, to determine the feasibility of shipping books from other libraries to distance students.  Currently, books will only be shipped to addresses within the continental United States.

Here is some information about the Distance Student ILL Delivery Service that you might find useful:

  1. Shipping address: To receive books, please provide a shipping address. We cannot ship to a post office box.   To provide a shipping address, please log on to your ILLiad account: https://utica.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html

First-time ILLiad users are required to fill out a registration form. Be sure to fill in the address information.

If you have already registered, click on “Change User Information” from the menu to the left of the screen to enter or update your address.  Once you have entered the correct address, click on “Submit Information.”

  1. Shipping time: Before requesting a book, consider the shipping time.  It takes an average of 10-14 days from the time of your request to delivery to your doorstep.  Be sure to order early enough so that the books arrive in time for you to use them! (Articles are delivered electronically so arrive much faster, often within 48 hours).

3.  Three book limit: Because of the shipping involved, you will be limited to three books at a time.  When all three of those are returned in good condition, we will send you three more.  If you have requested more than three books, we will process them by the order in which they were requested.

4.  Keep the packaging and prepaid label: Each request will be sent to you with a prepaid return address label inside the book.  Please use this and the original packaging, and ship via UPS by affixing the new label on top of the old one.  A PDF of the return address label will also be sent to your e-mail address at the time of shipping.  That way, if you lose the label, you can always print a copy of it.

5.   Check the due date:  The due date on the book label is the date that it is due to be returned to the UU library.  Please take delivery time into account when returning your book.  If you need additional time, you can request a renewal through the Interlibrary Loan website: https://utica.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html
